A winning ad that suddenly gets expensive is one of the most common things brands bring to us. Nine times out of ten, the fix isn't a new audience or a bid strategy — it's creative.
Creative is the targeting now
Meta's delivery system decides who sees your ad largely based on the ad itself. Broad targeting plus varied creative lets the algorithm find different pockets of buyers. If every ad says the same thing in the same way, you're effectively talking to the same people over and over.
Signs of creative fatigue
Watch for these together, not in isolation:
- Frequency climbing while click-through rate drops
- Hook rate (3-second views) declining week over week
- CPA rising on an ad set with no other changes
- Comments repeating the same objection
Iterate before you replace
When a winner fatigues, don't throw it out. Keep the core angle and change the hook, the creator, the first frame, or the format (video to static, static to carousel). Iterations of proven angles hit more often than brand-new concepts.
Build a testing cadence
Brands that scale steadily ship new creative on a schedule — weekly or biweekly — with a clear hypothesis for each test. Keep a simple log of what you tested and what won so learnings compound instead of getting lost.
Diversify formats and voices
Mix UGC, founder-led video, statics, and different creator demographics. Different people respond to different messengers, and variety is what gives the algorithm room to find new customers.
